! Greetings from The Lion King!

This is the first month of the New Year! We accomplished MUCH last Year and we look forward to more of the same this coming year. Remember, our Lions Club needs every members support so that we can continue to 'Serve' our Community, our District and International.

The Club got off to a flying start by parking cars at Cuesta College for the Renaissance Faire last weekend. Special thanks to Lions Frank, Terry and Ben for overseeing this event.

The installation of officers last month went well and I thank PDG Nancy Keyte for being the installing officer. (Do all the officers still have their animal?)

Lion George and Lynn, and Pam and I had GREAT time in Japan at the International Convention in Osaka. More later about an interesting trip.

I want to personally commend Lion George on his election to the Vice District Governorship of our District. A first for the Arroyo Grande Club! He will be installed at the first District meeting August 23, 24, and 25. More on this later!

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at our next meeting, and riding the train.

Thanks for your support, see you all soon! THE LION KING!

Lion Vice District Governor George Stewart
Take the first step Get Involved

I will be traveling around the district for the next couple of years urging Lions to take the first step and get involved. Lions are involved with their club, their community and their families, but we are asking lions for more.

Take the first step; get involved at the club level. Accept a chair of a committee, volunteer for an office or directorship.

Take the first step; get involved at the district level. Volunteer to serve on a district committee. Offer to serve as a district officer.

There is much work that can be done to help our community.

Becoming involved is “not all work and no play” active lions are having fun making a difference every day.

Take the first step. Get involved!

Editors Report:

Opportunity knocks: The Roar is taking applications for staff reporters. This is an opportunity to serve on the writing team of the best publication in the world…USA…State….County……City… would you believe Club?

NO experience is required. No talent is required. Contact the Chief Editor for details. Better yet just write something and give it to him. You are sure to proudly see the results of your hard work in print. This could lead to a real reporter job in a real newspaper.

Message from Lion Secretary Treasurer John McInerney

We have money in the bank!

Congratulations to District Governor Ruben

Lion District Governor Ruben is beginning his term as our District Governor. This is a very exhausting job and we should thank him for his efforts on behalf of Lionism.

Meeting Report

Chief Rick TerBorch gave an interesting presentation at our last meeting. He talked about Community Oriented Policing as practiced in Arroyo Grande. He provided us with statistics which allow him to utilize his officers in the best way possible for the City of Arroyo Grande. Chief TerBorch also provided our members with an “End of Year Summary 2001” which documents the activities of the department.
