Greetings from “The Lion King”

We had our first District meeting and all the District Officers were installed. Especially Lion George, who, by the way, did a bang-up job subbing for our absent District Governor. It all turned out to be a GREAT WEEKEND (even if it was in Carpinteria!) and I appreciate the effort members of the Arroyo Grande Club went to in order to participate. (Lions John Mc, Bob Carr, Frank Freitas and Connie, and Terry O) . We have a lot to do this month and I’m looking forward to the Harvest Festival at the end of September. We should have a great time 'cause it's always fun to "serve the public" when we're making money doing it. Keep Lion John and Marilyn in your thoughts this week because of the death of John’s Mother. John and Marilyn mean a lot to the Club. Not much else to report, Lion Bob has some great programs lined up for us! Make sure you are at the meetings so that you can enjoy them! From the ”LION KING”, JACK GATZ!

District News Cabinet meeting in Carpinteria

Thank you to the members and guests from Arroyo Grande that attended the district meeting in Carpinteria this past weekend. They were Lion President/Region Chairman Jack (and Pam), Terry, John, Bob Carr, and Frank (and Connie). Saturday was the first time that a member of our club conducted a “cabinet” meeting while he was a member of the club. It felt good. DG Ruben’s theme this year is “Making a difference”. And traveling around the district I see many Lions who are making a difference. I have the opportunity to see how interested each club is in providing the best service to their community. This is the number one objective. It is our objective at the district level to provide all the necessary tools to assist. We are continuing our education and training programs. The instructions include goal setting for clubs, how to conduct effective meetings, how to handle and control conflicts within a club, orientation of new members, and many other topics. These programs will continue at future district meetings and special seminars. Portions of this training may take place a regional and zone meetings. One important key to our success is our ability as Lions to have fun. If we don’t have fun we quickly forget why we exist. We serve is our ultimate objective. However in order to continue and provide the best or to be able to expand the service to our community we have to grow. Fellow Lions look around you and reach out and ask some one to become a member of the Arroyo Grande Lions. Show them the fun and satisfaction from being a Lion. For the next several months I will be on the road with DG Ruben visiting clubs. I will be at most board meetings and will continue to communicate through the bulletin. I hope when my schedule opens up that I will see new faces at the meetings. It would be great to show up for the second meeting in November and induct several new members. Sounds like a challenge doesn’t it. Well it is. If you want to see me you will have to be at a board meeting, travel with me, or wave to me as I drive by. Remember how important a child’s first step was? It was the beginnings of a new phase in the child’s life. So take that first step and get involved.

Harvest Festival Time

Please mark your calendars; Harvest Festival Time is here again. September 26 set up Booth. On the 27 & 28 we serve the best BBQ sandwiches in all of Arroyo Grande.

Meeting Report

Our last speaker was Gillian Andrews from the Dunes Center in Guadalupe. Ms. Andrews gave a very interesting talk, which included a history of activity in our dunes, a discussion on wildlife and flora. Ms. Andrews provided us with a calendar of events and invited us to become members of the Dunes Center. If you were not there you can visit the Center at 1055 Guadalupe St, call her at 343.2455, or visit their website at www.DunesCenter.org.

Lion Bill C. has issues with Lion George??? By Lion Bill Cockhott

Lion George (aka Lion Dist. Veep Something Or Another) finally learned of a product that came home to roost when Lion Bill reported in July about his Capsule Endoscopy, a product manufactured in Israel using wire produced at Lion George's CFW Grover Beach facility. It's truly a small world! The wire is used in a capsule that's swallowed to produce imagery on a computer screen after emitting something like 60,000 pictures over an 8-hour span while the capsule travels through the digestive system. Lion Bill knows about this first hand--he had to undergo the test twice because the first capsule was defective! (Lion Bill will be bringing in the 5/7’s for show and tell)
