Greetings from “The Lion King”

First of all, we wish Lions Bill Cockshott, Cecil Montgomery and Bill Pierson a speedy recovery. All three are recovering from serious medical conditions. Somehow the Club made it through the month of September. We had our regular meetings, we had the Harvest Festival, we had Bar-be-Ques, and we had visitations! A great big "Thanks!" to all the members for all the support in the Clubs active life. Lion Frank Workman has accepted the challenge to Chair our Club Student Speaker contest. We can all support Frank by being available to help when he asks. Our Club contest needs to be before February 19, 2003. And, we will include the new High School in Nipomo. I look forward to continuing activity with the Club. If you want to go on a visit to Morro Bay on Oct. 24th (we have to be there at 7:00PM) let me know. From the ”LION KING”, JACK GATZ!

Lion Vice District Governor George Stewart
District News Cabinet meeting in Carpinteria

Ask me any question about Highway 101 south and I could probably give you the answer. I could tell you how many fence posts there are between Arroyo Grande and Santa Barbara. Well not really. However I have traveled over 2400 miles in about 5 weeks and I have about 1000 more miles this year. It has been fun, having the opportunity to met so many new Lions and renew friendship with so many old friends. We have visited about thirty clubs and have ten to twelve more to visit. Of course that means some late nights on the road. I will have attended the Carpinteria’s 75th anniversary night dinner and had the chance to listen to International President Kay once again by the time you read this. The visitations have given me the chance to develop plans and objectives for next year. Hopefully by the time I become District Governor these plans will be fully developed and ready to put into use. Now we are gearing up for the next District Meeting at Camp Alegre the 15 and 16 of November. I think I’ll let Ruben run this one. I hope that there will be a large contingent from Arroyo. Please take advantage of the Multiple District orientation and retention programs to be presented. There should be some excellent leaders present. All should have a good time. We are also working on starting some new clubs and to create a couple of Branch clubs. The selection of cabinet officers for next year is coming along. I hope to everything together by the first of the year. Well, hope to catch you at a board meeting or a meeting or two some where along the way. >br> Remember take that first step and get involved.
Thanks, George

Harvest Festival Report

Lion Terry sends his BIG THANK YOU for your help in making this anther successful Harvest Festival. A special thanks to the spouses that helped out. We served the best BBQ sandwiches town. The public seemed to agree, based on their response to our food. Lion John reported that we netted $1600. Not bad for cooking in the rain.

Meeting Report

The last meeting was the visit to the Seaglass Nursery in Nipomo. We enjoyed a great evening with Lion Dan and Karen. Lion Dan showed the Lions and guests around the Nursery. This was a very interesting program.
Thank you Dan and Karen!

Lions Used Eyeglass Collection and Distribution

Interested in learning more about Lions eyeglass collection and recycling efforts? Read "Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers" in the September 2002 headquarters' edition of THE LION Magazine and "Indiana Lions' Mission Brings Special Gift" in the October 2002 issue. The focus of this month's issue is on a seven-day mission to the city of San Martin in the state of Puebla, Mexico in which a team of 33 volunteers was able to improve the quality of life for many people by providing recycled eyeglasses to them.

More Club News By: Lion Secretary John McInerney

More Club News By: Lion Secretary John McInerney The Club has earned over $4,000.00 since June with BBQ's including Harvest Festival. We will be doing a BBQ for California Fine Wire's Holiday Party on December 14. There will about 100 in attendance and it will include a no host bar. It should be a good fundraiser but with the bar we will need a lot of help from the members. Please mark your calendars. Terry, Jack & I did the Health Fair in Nipomo on Sunday October 20th. We screened about 150 people with an eye exam. The Fair was a success with other groups offering Blood pressure tests, Diabetes testing, cholesterol testing, tetanus shots, Breast cancer awareness, sponsored by Mary Kay, and an anti smoking campaign.
